Sic bo

Sic Bo is a dice game played with three six-sided dices. It has its roots in China, but is today found in casinos all over the world – and online. In Chinese, the name Sic Bo means Precious Dice.

Internationally, the most commonly used dice type for Sic Bo is the standard dotted dice; with one dot on one side, two dots on another side, and so on. In some casinos, an alternative dice set with colors and Chinese symbols is used instead.

This table is a commonly used translation table showing how the Chinese signs correspond with colors and the dotted-type dice. Don’t trust it blindly; always check the rules for to the specific Sic Bo table at which you wish to play.

Throwing the dices

In games such as Craps, one of the players is selected to throw the dices. This is not the case in Sic Bo, where casino tradition stipulate that the dealer (croupier) throws the dice.

In modern casinos, the dice are usually kept on a special plate and covered with a transparent glass dome. When the dealer pushes a button, the plate starts shaking – throwing the dice around. When the shaking stops, the dices come to rest, without anyone ever tuching them. The protective dome is never removed.

Betting

There are many different bets to chose among when playing Sic Bo – some more high risk than others. If the chance of winning is low, the payout when you actually win is bigger than for the bets where your chance of winning is higher. If you have played roulette, you recognize this pattern.

BigDo you think the the total sum of the three dices will be 13 or higher? Then you can bet on Big.

 

You will get paid if the total sum is 13 or higher, unless it’s a triple.

 

Examples:

 

  • You win on 6 + 6 + 5 = 17, since 17 is high enough.
  • You lose on 6 + 6 + 6 = 18, because even though 18 is high enough, it is also a triple.

Small

Do you think that the total sum of the dice will be 10 or lower? Then you can bet on Small.

If you bet on Small, you win if the total sum is 10 or lower, unless it’s a triple.

Examples:

  • You win on 2 + 2 + 4 = 8, since that is low enough.

  • You lose on 2 + 2 + 2 = 6, because even though it’s low enough, it is also a triple.

Odd

A bet on Odd will pay if the total sum of the dices is an odd number, unless it is a triple.

 

Examples:

  • You win on 5 + 5 + 3 = 13, since that is an odd number.

  • You lose on 5 + 5 + 5 = 15, because even though it is an odd number, it is also a triple.

Even

A bet on Even will pay if the total sum of the dices is an even number, unless it is a triple.

 

Examples:

  • You win on 5 + 5 + 2 = 12, since that is an even number.

  • You lose on 4 + 4 + 4 = 12, because even though it is an even number, it is also a triple.

Single Dice Bet

This category holds three different possible bets:

  • Betting that your selected number will show on at least one of the dices.

  • Betting that your selected number will show on at least two of the dices.

  • Betting that your selected number will show on all three dices.

The likelyhood of the number to show on at least one of the dices is 34,72%, on at least two of the dices 6,94% and on all three dices 0,46%.

The bet that pays the most when you win is of course the three-dice bet, followed by the two-dice bet. The smallest payment is, unsurprisingly, for the one-dice bet.

Dice Combinations

This category holds a lot of different possible bets, since “Dice Combinations” is a bet on what two of the three dices will show. You select the numbers, so many different bets are possible.

 

Example: You believe that at least one dice will show the number 3 and that at least one dice will show the number 6. So, you make a Dice Combinations bet on those two numbers. Now, any combo that includes at least one 3 and at least one 6 will get you paid, such as:

Three Dice Total

This is a bet on what the total sum of the three dices will be.

Example: You think that the total sum will be eight, so you bet on that. Now, you will get paid if the total sum is twelve, which means that there are more than one possible combination that can give you money. Example: 1-1-6, 1-2-5, 1-3-4, 2-3-3, etc.

Four Number Combination

Within this category, there are four different four-number combination to chose among for your bet:

  • 6-5-4-3

  • 6-5-3-2

  • 5-4-3-2

  • 4-3-2-1

Yes, I can see you scratching your head. How can any of these combos be possible when we are playing with just THREE dices? The answer is that when you make a bet on one of these four-number combos, you get paid if the three dices show only numbers that are included in your four-number combination.

 

Example: You bet on 5-4-3-2. The dice show 5-3-2. You win, since 5-3-2 are all included in your chosen combo.

Specific Doubles

This is a bet on a double of your choice: 6-6, 5-5, 4-4, 3-3, 2-2, or 1-1.

 

You get paid if two of the dices form your selected double. What the third dice shows is of no consequence.

Three Single Number Combination

This is a bet on three selected numbers. You only win of the dices show exactly what you selected. You can chose any numbers.

Any Triple

If you make this bet, you get paid of all three dices show the same number. Thus, there are six possible combos that can get you paid: 1-1-1, 2-2-2, 3-3-3, 4-4-4, 5-5-5, and 6-6-6. It doesn’t matter which triple they show, since you get paid for any triple.

Combination

To make this type of bet, you need to select one specific double (e.g. 4 + 4) and one specific single (e.g. 3). You only win if the dices show exactly what you selected.

Specific Triple

This is a bet on a specific triple. You only win if the dices show your selected triple.

Example: You bet on the triple 4-4-4 and the dices show 5-5-5. You lose your money, because even though the dices show a triple, it is the wrong triple.
